My First Time: Werder Stadium Tour (Mar 29)

At Werder Bremen, the number 12 shirt is dedicated to the fans so it was fitting that College 3 took 12 students to the tour of the Weserstadion. Leaving at midday, no-one knew what would await them. Dushko told stories of friends meeting Diego and Jörg told how he wanted Torsten Frings to clean his boots. Lida just wanted into the changing rooms (off limits to male visitors due to individual training for some players - the team had a day off due to the recent good results).
As it turned out, there was no Diego, who has long since left for Turin, nor Torsten Frings who was probably cruising around in his Ferrari - we learnt that the players all got Volkswagen cars that they had to drive to training and games in but could use their own personal cars the rest of the time and Herr Frings' car of choice was a Ferrari when he wasn't out and about on his Harley Davidson!
What we did get was an insight into life at Werder Bremen. After Dushko was unveiled as the club's new signing in the press conference room, we were shown the visitor's changing rooms, complete with hot tub and ice bath, taken down to pitch level, through the VIP suites (which we want to rent for the next C3 party, or at least Lida does)! The tour was finished off in the Wuseum, the Werder Bremen museum. Everyone who took part was very impressed with the great tour and a few of us came away wondering how we can get into refereeing quickly after being told that Bundesliga officials receive €3600 per game...along with tea, Sky TV and as much chewing gum as they want!

Special Guest Visits C3 (Mar 18)

Wednesday 18th March around 12.40pm. Just the time someone would have gotten the shock of his life realizing two silhouettes on his room window. Fortunately there was no such episode as there is currently no one living in the first apartment in C3’s C Block J Such is the allure of our magnificent college that President Treusch and his guest Dr. Auma Obama couldn’t resist its irresistible pull (and they thought it was their choice;). True to our college’s cordial nature we received our guests with the door wide open, sure that the view from the inside was waaaay better.

College 3’s special visitor from Kenya Dr. Auma Obama, Project Coordinator of the humanitarian organization CARE joined President Treusch, his guests, the College Masters and some students for lunch in the servery. Experiencing the cuisine and atmosphere of a normal Jacobs University mealtime, she engaged in light hearted table talk with people of different nationalities, characteristic of this school.

After a lovely lunch she was taken on a short tour of our beautiful home starting at the loud poster wall announcing the activities of C3’s busy residents; through the QSA; the 3rd floor of C Block (Big up guyz!, your decorations still look like they were put there yesterday); the common room and finally to the ground floor triple apartment in B block where she had some coffee and a chat with her hosts, Lidet, Jessica and Levken.

At the end of the tour, our guests only had positive things to say about our college on its homeliness and commendable cleanliness. Slowly the ripple effects of our little college are travelling past the porters’, we just got one more fan in Kenya.

Kasyo.

Oscars Night in C3

For the student body from all over the world, who take refuge in movies, Oscars is a big event. It is the source of finding the best movies to watch, and of contentment to see the movies they like being accredited with the awards they deserve. College 3 organized an Oscar evening this Sunday to cater to all those students. The event consisted of the screening of last year's winner, Slumdog Millionaire, followed by "Red Carpet" and "Live from Oscars". The problem with screening famous movies is that a lot of people have already seen them. Nevertheless, as Jamal answered his way to 20,000,000 Rupees, the MMR slowly filled up with students waiting for Slumdog Millionaire to end, and the "Live from Red Carpet" to begin.
