College 3 hosts the Universal Children’s Day celebration at Jacobs!

On the 21st of November College 3 hosted the Universal Children’s Day celebration, organized by the UNICEF club on campus. Kids from many kindergartens in Bremen, as well as their parents, came to paint, play, dance, and eat cake. All guests of the event listened to the inspiring speech and songs of Magnet Man, an international dancehall star from Barbados, who was the special guest of the event. All kids received autographs and special posters from Magnet Man, and participated in the different creative workshops.

UNICEF club is very happy to announce that €400 was gathered from this event and from the charity reggae concert on the previous day. The funds from these two events were donated to UNICEF's campaign Schools for Africa, which aims to build schools for 4 million children in Africa.

Halloween 2009- so fantastically good, it was *scary*. Hah- bad pun intended.

This year's Halloween party in H3 delivered on all fronts- the decorations were superb (thanks to the the near-superhuman and life-threatening efforts put in by the College 3 team), the entertainment was both unique AND astoundingly good (thanks to Tobi for DJ'ing and the band Wasted, brought to you by Harri Geiger), the mosh pits brutal (thanks to your friendly local security man Simon) the drinks capable of inebriating even the heaviest drinkers (you get the idea by now- excellent job bar staff), but the real star of the evening was the audience. Never before have I personally seen a party with a costume requirement turn out such excellent get-ups, ranging from the hilarious to the scandalously, er, sexy, to the pure cool.....and yes, I am referring to a particular set of men. Who happened to be wearing black. It seemed like everywhere you turned there was another creative costume ready to double you over into tears of laughter or cause your jaw to scrape the floor for sheer ballsiness, and though perhaps they might have been a few more pirates than usual floating around, they more than made up for it by being damn good pirates.
Whether or not you normally celebrate Halloween, I can only hope that you decided to this year- otherwise, you missed out on what may very well be one of the best parties of the year- and that would be downright terrifying. (Sean)

"My first time" event @ Beck's and Haake Beck

This time the MFT event took us to the Beck’s and Haake-Beck brewery. There we took a brilliant brewery tour which provided us with a lot of interesting information about the art of brewing, the brewery, and the Beck’s and Haake-Beck brands – all presented in a diversified manner. First we started with an introduction and presentation in the InBev cinema. Afterwards a movie introduced us to both beer brands and the company InBev. Then the 3 hour tour took us through the Brewery Museum, the raw materials area, and as one of many highlights - the brew house. Further, we passed by malt silos and fermentation and storage tanks. The great MFT event was completed by a beer test in the green bar of the visitor center. We ate pretzels and tried ... a couple of beers … YEAH! Well – have a look at the pictures and see how great the MFT events are!

Hozefa and Hendrik Parliament Statement

Hello C3!

First of all we want to express our gratitude for the confidence in us that you showed during the USG election. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
We will do our best this year to be strong parliamentarians for you and to make Jacobs University an even better place to live and study at :)
We are confident that the USG will experience a successful year; in its first parliamentary meeting, the USG already started working on the meal plan issue again. We also hope to have your opinions heard more often and more efficiently this year, for example through survey or polls on certain issues.
The USG parliament elected us to chair this year’s Internal Affairs Committee. It is going challenging task, but we are very much looking forward to working in our committee. As chairs of the IAC, we will be responsible for the organization of events such as the Fall Games, Spotlight or the End of Year Festival. Equally important however, we are also your contact persons when you have questions or concerns related to your life at Jacobs University. Therefore, please do not hesitate to approach us (which some of you already did).

See you around,
Hendrik and Hozefa

Dear Dragon Lovers!

It’s Jessica Ice here, and I want to sincerely thank you for electing me into Student Parliament! I have taken up the position of Committee of Finance chair, so if you have issues with the accumulation period on the meal plan, development of the IRC, conditions of clubs and sports on campus, or input on basically anything else the university would have to make a pretty big long term investment in please let me or my committee know! We have a lot of issues on the agenda for this year and all of your input is crucial for our success. Keep checking the USG teamwork space and website for news about our current initiatives.
I am also excited to serve as a member of the C3 College Council and if you have any issues related to your experience in C3 please let me know.

I have great hope for a very productive year and I hope to make my beautiful GREEN college proud!

USA Ambassador @ C3

On October 6, 2009 College 3 received Philip D. Murphy, US Ambassador to Germany, for dinner and for a brief tour. Ambassador Murphy entered with a bow as a full procession of staff and security joined selected American students for dinner in the servery. Students and staff tasted delicious American finger foods as Ambassador Murphy charismatically gathered the opinions of what it is like to be an American abroad, especially in such an international atmosphere as Jacobs. He was also eager to discuss both types of football and students favorite music genres. The new Ambassador even requested advice from the table for the town hall meeting he hosted later that night in the IRC. Responses ranged from making sure to wear black socks to addressing Germany in the context of the European Union, to emphasizing climate change.
