The College Masters
Since the beginning of the fall semester 2007, Tijana Janjic Pfander and her husband Götz Pfander took over the responsibilities of College Masters of College Three.
Tijana was born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, while Götz grew up in Mainz, Germany. Both received their PhD in Applied Mathematics respectively Mathematics from the University of Maryland, USA. After their time in the USA they moved to Stuttgart, Germany, before moving on to Bremen. Tijana is now working at the Alfred Wegner Institute in Bremerhaven. Her interests include data assimilation in meteorology and oceanography. Since 2002, Götz is a Professor of Mathematics at Jacobs University / International University Bremen. His scientific area is harmonic analysis and applications, in particular to communications engineering.
Götz and Tijana see it as the colleges' primary task to establish a positive atmosphere that allows the college residents to study and to work successfully towards their academic goals. In addition, a college at Jacobs University provides its residents with first-hand intercultural experiences whose content and value can hardly be expressed in words. Last but not least, they fully understand the necessity of giving college residents the possibility to relieve stress and tension through sports and festivities.
